Did 5-day RTO cause a real attrition wave at Amazon, or did everyone just comply?

From friends still there: it wasn't a mass exodus. Senior ICs with long commutes or young kids left, and almost everyone else grumbled and stayed because the comp is hard to walk away from. The bigger hit is recruiting. Candidates with remote offers just say no.
