Privacy Policy
Last updated October 26, 2026
The short version
- Your reviews show an anonymous label, never your name or email.
- We collect only what we need to run the site, prevent abuse, and keep reviews honest.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't show ads or use advertising cookies.
- Text you submit is screened by AI providers for rule violations, without your name or email attached.
- We hand over information only when the law requires it, and we try to tell you first.
- You can edit or delete what you post with an account, and delete the account itself, at any time.
This summary is here to help. The full text below is what applies.
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains how Know The Boss ("we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website. It applies together with our Terms of Service.
2. Information you give us
Account details: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the name and profile picture Google shares with us. You can also set a display name.
What you post: reviews, ratings, the behaviors you select, written notes, interview experiences, pay details if you share them, community questions and answers, and reports you file about other posts.
Visa and immigration experiences: if you share how a company handled H-1B or green card sponsorship, that tells us something about your immigration situation. We use it only to show combined sponsorship information and your review, and we never show it alongside your name.
Work email verification: if you choose to verify that you work somewhere, we collect that work email address, send it a one-time code, and keep a record of the verified address and its domain on your account. We never show it publicly.
Posting without an account: you can share interviews, questions, answers, sponsorship reports and reviews without signing in. We keep the browser identifier described below with what you post, to limit how often one browser can post. A person reads reviews sent without an account before they appear, and because there's no account, you can't edit or delete them yourself later. Use the contact form if you need one taken down.
Messages: if you write to us through the contact form, we keep what you wrote, along with your name and email address if you give them, or your account's email if you're signed in.
Removal requests and reports: if you ask for a profile to be removed, or report news as wrong, we keep your name, your account's email, and what you told us, so we can act on it and keep a record.
3. Information collected automatically
A random device identifier, stored in your browser, that we use to prevent duplicate reviews and to limit how often someone can post. It isn't tied to your name.
Sign-in cookies that keep you logged in.
Technical information that our hosting provider records in standard server logs, like IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. We don't store IP addresses with your reviews.
To slow down abuse, like repeated failed sign-ins or floods of votes, the site briefly keeps the IP addresses of recent requests in memory. They aren't saved to our database.
We don't use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers.
4. How we use information
To run the site, show your posts, and let you edit or delete them.
To screen posts for rule violations, spam, and fake or duplicate reviews.
To calculate scores, rankings, and summaries from what users submit.
To verify employment when you ask us to.
To answer your messages and handle requests about content.
To meet legal obligations and protect the site, our users, and the public.
We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising, and we don't use it to make decisions about you that have legal effects.
5. AI processing
We use AI providers to screen submitted text for threats, hate speech, personal information, and other rule violations, to suggest spelling fixes on short phrases you add, to write labeled summaries of what reviewers said, and to find and summarize public news about companies. Today these providers are Groq and Anthropic.
We send the text being checked, not your name, email address, or account details. The providers process it under their API terms to return a result to us.
6. What other people can see
Reviews are public and appear under an anonymous label. Your ratings count toward public scores. Community questions and answers show your display name only if you choose to post under it.
We never show your email address, your work email, or your account details to other users. Remember that details you write in a review, like your team or specific events, can make you identifiable to people who know you.
7. How your posts are linked to you
Your reviews are connected to your account behind the scenes so you can edit or delete them and so we can prevent duplicate reviews. Only the small team that runs Know The Boss can access that connection, and only to operate and protect the site.
If you delete your account, we remove your sign-in and profile. Any reviews you didn't delete first stay up, but with no link to you.
8. Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run Know The Boss, and only what they need:
Supabase stores our database and handles sign-in.
Vercel hosts the website.
Resend delivers verification emails.
Groq and Anthropic provide the AI processing described above.
Google provides sign-in if you choose it. Its button loads from Google when you open the sign-in window, so Google can see your IP address then.
Most company logos are served by Know The Boss. Logos for companies added recently can load from unavatar.io or Google, which can see your IP address when your browser requests an image.
We may also share information if the law requires it, as described below, or as part of a merger or sale of Know The Boss, in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
9. Legal requests
We disclose information about a user only when we receive a valid subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or when we believe in good faith that it is needed to prevent serious harm. We review requests carefully and may push back on ones that are too broad.
When the law allows, we will try to notify you before disclosing your information, so you have a chance to object or get legal help.
10. How long we keep information
We keep your account information while your account is open. We keep reviews until you or we remove them. Verification records stay with your account until you delete it. Hosting logs are kept for a limited period by our hosting provider. Backups can hold deleted information for a short time before they are overwritten.
11. Your choices and rights
You can edit or delete your reviews and delete your account from your account page at any time. For anything you posted without an account, use the contact form. You can also use the contact form to:
Get a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correct information that is wrong.
Delete your information.
California residents have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we use sensitive information, like immigration details, only to provide the service. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, we rely on our legitimate interest in running and protecting the site, and on your consent where needed. You can object to our processing and complain to your local data protection authority.
We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
12. Security
We use access controls, encryption in transit, and limited staff access to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission. If a breach affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.
13. Children
Know The Boss is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, tell us through the contact form and we will delete it.
14. Where information is stored
Know The Boss is run from the United States, and our providers may store information in the United States and other countries. By using the site, you understand that your information may be processed outside your home country.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. If a change is significant, we will give notice on the site before it takes effect.
16. Contact
Send privacy questions and requests through the contact form. A person reads every message.
